What Resin Paste Is

Rolio resin paste is a highly pigmented, thick coloring agent used to add rich, opaque colors to resin projects.

Unlike liquid dyes or powders, resin paste blends smoothly into the resin, making it great for creating solid, vibrant colors with really good coverage.

It’s often used in a variety of resin crafts, from jewelry and coasters to larger pieces like resin art and table tops.

Resin paste lets crafters to experiment with bold color effects. You can also use it for solid backgrounds or for swirling designs, like this resin plant pendant I made with the white color.

Rolio Resin Paste Is Good Quality

When I opened up each pot of resin paste there was no aroma or smell. The pigments were full color saturation. Each epoxy paste pigment is packed with pigment, so you can get vibrant colors with just a small amount.

A little goes a long way, and I do mean little. Just a small amount made a test piece go completely opaque with color.

You can also use a little bit if you are going to color your resin a translucent color.

The rich pigmentation is really easy to work with. So if you are a resin artist who wants to make geode resin art or jewelry, these colors go a long way.

some of my favorite colors

Some of my favorite colors from the Rolio resin paste collection are the French Rose which has a deep, luxurious tone.

And then the Azure blue goes well when you are making pieces with gold accents.

The Pure White is also a good pot to get, which gives a beautiful contrast when combined with brighter shades.

And can be used for making ocean waves. You can also make pastel colors with it by adding just the tiniest bit of color.

This is what the pigment paste looks like. You can see it’s very thick and will easily mix into the resin.

These colors blend smoothly into the resin, making them good for everything from subtle accents for domino jewelry, to big resin paintings.

This is what the Scarlet shade looks like when mixed into resin. Only a tiny bit was used and it turned the resin a gorgeous red.

I tried it out with UV Resin

This resin paste can be used with UV resin! The pigments blended easily and didn’t interfere with the curing process, which can be a concern when working with UV resin.

This beautiful resin charm was made with the white resin pigment paste that was swirled into the resin. If you want to try making this check out the tutorial: How to make a resin charm.

The color stayed exactly where I put it, even while curing under the UV resin light. It was nice to see that the pastes performed just as well in UV resin as they do in regular epoxy.

Tips Using Rolio Resin Pastes

Wear Gloves: To avoid stains and mess, always wear gloves when handling the resin paste. This paste will stain clothes and even your hands if you get it on there.

The paste will not come off your skin easily, so do be careful or it will get everywhere.

The lid is easy to get off but the seal can be tricky so just take your time so that it doesn’t get on everything when you are getting them opened up for the first time.

The way I like to open up color pots is to take an exacto knife and carefully go around the top and then take the covering off with long crafting tweezers.

Keep Lids Sealed Tight: Make sure the lids are fully closed after each use to prevent the paste from drying out.

Store in a Cool, Dry Place: Keep the pastes away from direct sunlight and heat so that they don’t break down over time. I like to keep all of my colorants for resin together in boxes that are labelled.

Use Clean Tools: Always use clean, dry tools when scooping out the paste to avoid contamination. Make sure you are using a clean spoon or silicone spatula for each color.

Start with a Small Amount: A little goes a long way with these pastes, so start with a small amount and add more as needed to achieve your desired color intensity.

It’s best not to go over about 8% in your total resin mix. Or you can run into problems with the resin not curing properly.

See our guide: Why resin isn’t curing

Mix Thoroughly: Mix the paste well into the resin for even color distribution without streaks, unless that is what you are going for. If you don’t mix it in properly, the resin might stay sticky.
